We are planning to open the New Friendship Guesthouse in July 2026. The new position of the guesthouse have been updated in Google Maps already.
First we will build the house for living. The space of our new piece of land is quite limited, therefore we decided to build a two-story house. On the second floor there will be one apartment for our guests. We hope to start the construction of the three semi-attached bungalows for our guests in parallel, hopefully in March 2026. You can see the floor plans for the guest accommodation in the picture below/beside. The last project is to rebuilt the restaurant, hopefully from the income we generate with guesthouse and jungle tours. Friendship Guesthouse & Restaurant was built in 2008 and was one of the most famous and popular guesthouses in Ketambe. In recent years we have been pleased to welcome between 250 and 300 guests annually.
On the doom day, the 27 November 2025, the guesthouse was completely washed away by a massive flood of the Alas River. The complete area of about 5000 m² with 8 bungalows, a large restaurant, a swimming pool and the private house vanished within few hours. The complete land disappeared. The basis of Ahmad's and his families live and income does not exist anymore. A reconstruction at the same place is impossible, because the Alas river have taken over this part of land.
The first fundraising campaign to support Ahmad and his family, as well as guides and porters who worked for the Friendship Guesthouse has ended on 30 December 2025. For 15 guides and porters donations of 3.964 EUR were collected and handed over as specified by the donors. Ahmad have got 9.945 EUR plus about 116M Indonesian Rupiah from the fundraising campaign and from supportive friends. Ahmad was overwhelmed by the unexpected great support and gives everyone a big hug together with a great thank you.
It is a good financial basis to buy a new piece of land and to begin rebuilding a new house for living, a guesthouse and a restaurant. But it won't be enough for everything.
We have created a new donation link (see above) to support the reconstruction of the Friendship Guesthouse. We are happy that since 1 January 2026 about 1.100 EUR have already been donated - please don't stop your support.
We are very optimistic that we will open a smaller NEW Friendship Guesthouse in July 2026.
